The movie takes place in a small town, where Virginia (Jennifer Connelly), a mentally unstable woman, has a two-decade affair with a local married sheriff, Dick Tipton (Ed Harris). Virginia's son Emmett (Harrison Gilbertson) acts as her protector.[1] During Emmet's quest for the truth of his father's identity, he begins a relationship with Jessie (Emma Roberts), Tipton's daughter.[2]
The film was shot in Holland, Michigan during summer of 2010 in seven weeks on local streets, homes and businesses. The project was filmed in Michigan thanks to a state program offering incentives to the entertainment industry. [3] The film was premiered on September 15, 2010 in the Toronto International Film Festival,[4] the theatrical release date is yet to be determined.
